Canadian panel OKs funds to improve access to CN line

The Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) has awarded CA$847,378 in funds to develop a transshipment center in the regional county municipality (MRC) of Mekinac.

The center will be located in the Saint-Tite regional industrial park, according to a CED press release.

Small and medium-sized businesses in the region are expected to benefit from the project, which will result in better access to national and foreign markets for procurement and deliveries, officials said. Additionally, the project will attract investment from businesses in the industrial park.

The 10 municipalities in the Mekinac MRC decided in 1996 to create a regional industrial park on land adjacent to the main regional CN rail line. The new transshipment center will be developed on about 8.5 acres in the park.
