The Surface Transportation Board‘s Office of Environmental Analysis (OEA) is soliciting public input on a draft environmental assessment (EA) for Palmetto Railways‘ proposed Camp Hall rail line in Berkley, South Carolina.

The railroad seeks to construct and operate a 23-mile line between CSX’s Cross Subdivision near the Santee Cooper Cross Generating Station and the Camp Hall Commerce Park in Berkley County. Slated to start sometime next year and be completed in 2020, the line primarily would serve a nearby Volvo plant.

The draft EA analyzes potential environmental impacts of the project and contains OEA’s preliminary recommendations for environmental mitigation measures, as well as Palmetto Railway’s voluntary mitigation actions.

The OEA is accepting comments on the draft EA until Dec. 30.
