The city of Milwaukee earlier this week took delivery of its second streetcar vehicle from Brookville Equipment Corp.

The 83,000-pound vehicle traveled via truck from the company’s plant in Brookville, Pennsylvania, to Milwaukee.

The unit was rolled off the truck on West St. Paul Avenue and then moved inside the streetcar system’s adjacent operations and maintenance facility, according to a press release issued by the Milwaukee Department of Public Works.

On-street testing of both streetcars will continue on West St. Paul Avenue, with testing along the full initial route to begin in summer.

The streetcars need to complete 1,000 hours of testing before they can serve riders, BizTimes Milwaukee reported.

In March, Milwaukee received its first vehicle for its new streetcar system, which is slated to open later this year. The city has ordered five total units from Brookville. Rides will be free for the first year due to a $10 million sponsorship agreement with Potawatomi Hotel and Casino.

The new streetcar system will be known as “The Hop.”
